I saw this book on a list and with all of the interest in Mayan culture this year I went ahead and downloaded it. I was surprised when I start to read it to find it was a lesson plan for home schooling. I will admit the concept of the book overwhelmed me. It is very well laid out with a well written article, extensive online resources and eight lessons. It also adapts to different learning levels. Every thing you need is right at your fingertips.One thing that jumped to my mind that in addition to its use in home schooling, the lessons seem fun and engaging and would be great as summer activities.

This is what the title indicates. It is written for students and perhaps works well enough for its intended audience.
I give it this rating because it does give plenty of wonderful information and since I had to do a project for this subject, it was quite helpful.
This is a great book to get you started on studying the culture and history of the ancient Maya! It is easy to read and not too acedemic. I wish I'd had this to read before our visit to Tikal, Guatemala as I feel it would have helped me (and my children) appreciate and understand what we were seeing so much more. The text includes clickable links to excellent on-line resources to further your learning, as well as lesson plans (with activities) for teachers and students.
This is a good overview about the Mayas, but like so many other studies, it contains assumptions that make defy sense in terms of human nature.
Loved reading it and it was of great help in preparing me for a trip to some Mayan ruins. It gave me information way ahead of time so i understood more when i got to Mexico and Honduras.
This resource is ok for a high schools class. Pretty basic stuff in here and designed to be used as a teaching guide, not a stand alone resource.
